I realised that designing the layout of the logbook is just as challenging as building an app. Several factors must be considered to ensure a pleasurable user experience. I did not want this logbook to be just another book with a table inside.
Some of my key design goals are:
Subtle grid lines that help define the sections without drawing too much attention.
Simple, clean font for legibility (like sans-serif fonts). Making sure the font size is small but readable.
Keeping the cells Column and row size balanced, not too cramped but also not too spaced out. Pilot logbooks often have a lot of data, so find a balance where there’s just enough space for the text to breathe.
Instead of filling a column with words, using icons or symbols where applicable, saving space while keeping it functional.
Adding minimal padding within each data cell can help keep the text from feeling cramped. Even a tiny bit of space between the text and the borders can make a difference.
Only including the most essential columns in the logbook to reduce visual clutter.
